A Visionary Place of Education
We are inviting you to invest in our unique school and extraordinary form of education.
Currently, we provide an education to children aged 4 to 12. In addition to time spent in the classroom, children have time to connect with nature, planting and harvesting on our grounds or in the polytunnel, and happily playing during breaks; engaging in imaginative play, using the sand pit, slides and swings. Children also have access to a beautiful forest.
Kilkenny Steiner School is an independent Steiner-Waldorf school, and as such we receive no funding from the Department of Education. In fact, we are a rare alternative to the state-run primary system in Ireland. Our independence enables us to deliver our curriculum without compromises. Our pedagogy, curriculum, and policies are overseen by our College of Teachers, and our Board of Trustees is responsible for the school’s physical, legal and financial well being.
While we are keeping our fees at a minimum, the costs to run our school can not be met from school fees alone. We are not big spenders. We pay our teachers conservative salaries, along with a minimal amount of other wages; everything else is done on a voluntary basis by the parents of our school. But, this situation is becoming unsustainable and we have dreams and aspirations. This is why we need your help.
- We value our teachers, and want to compensate them fairly.
- We are creating a bursary program to make this education accessible to as many children as possible.
- We want to buy our current school buildings and some additional land. This will give us security of tenure, and more space for play and future development.
- We hope to grow our school, with the aim of forming a secondary level, where our current students can be assured of continuing their education with us.
We are always grateful to receive donations however small. Whether a short – or long-term loan, a financial gift, a lifelong patronage, or if you would consider leaving a legacy, please consider making a donation.

A Wonderful School for All Children
Children face many challenges today which can impact on their growth and development. We offer a child-friendly environment where our students experience the joy of learning in an unpressured way. Digital technology is not used at primary level; instead, children learn through engagement with their subjects, through reading and writing, self-expression in the arts and practically through crafts.
Children create their own textbooks from the content of what they have learned. There are no standardised tests, but continuous assessment ensures that educational goals are met. Our students embrace the values of kindness and cooperation. They are supported to challenge themselves, and overcome obstacles, both educationally and socially. These approaches build emotional resilience and empathy, leading the children to become well-balanced human beings who engage positively and creatively in life.
Steiner-Waldorf schools have been in existence for over 100 years, and there are over 1,400 such schools globally. We are a steadfast movement of educators and parents who want more for our children and their futures. This education works for all children, irrespective of academic ability, class, ethnicity or religion, and considers the needs of the whole child, head, heart and hands!
We inspire children to unfold their full potential and to love the world, causing a ripple effect of positive change in their communities. Life-long skills that our students develop are compassion, confidence, curiosity, creativity, self-discipline, multiple-intelligences, a strong sense of self, and diverse capacities that enable them to realize their unique life purpose.
Will you help?
When you contribute, you are investing in an impactful form of education that is life changing for children, with implications reaching far into the future. In doing so, you will have the possibility to learn more and to enjoy the meaningful work that we are doing in our school and wider community. Your generosity will be sincerely appreciated.
We hope that you will consider making a donation to our school.
With best regards,
Funding Team
on behalf of the Children and Teachers at Kilkenny Steiner School
P.S. If you’d like to see what you’re investing in, and why our students love coming to school, email us, and we will be happy to arrange for you to observe a Waldorf Main Lesson!
